Full disclosure - this is not a post about Pilates or yoga.
That said, this post is also about the heart of yoga - of the deeper reasons why we step onto our mats and cultivate a mindfulness practice in the first place - to connect to our wiser selves and to something larger than ourselves.
Do you ever wonder how you can be a part of something bigger or how to create change in the world?
I do.
It seems overwhelming. There are so many good causes and so many groups taking on massive challenges - the kind that don't get magically resolved over night or even over a year or two. Where to start? How can one person make a difference?
For me, I'm thinking big by starting small. Everyday there's something I can do for someone else to make a difference in their day which may ripple out further into the world than I can possibly imagine. And I can support people who are fighting the good fight to make this world a better place both now and in the future.
Jen Thomas is that kind of people. Smart, kind, passionate - she is a boundary breaker and a mentor to many and yet also deeply committed to her own continued growth.
She's taking a big step out of her comfort zone this spring by running for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year. She's stepping out from behind the scenes where she's most comfortable supporting others to take center stage and raise money for a cause that matters to her.
If yoga has taught me anything, it’s that there is magic in facing what scares you - whether that be handstand or standing up for yourself. So when someone steps into that place of vulnerability and shares their truth - like Jen is, taking the pain of losing her father to cancer and transforming it into the power to prevent other families from experiencing what hers did - there’s our chance to make a difference. To encourage and spread the message, to come together and prove that one person can make a difference.
I'm honored to be a part of Jen’s journey by hosting a fundraising event at The Vine Post in Juno Beach, Wednesday, April 24th from 5:30-8pm. This isn't your average, get one (not-so-great) glass of wine kind of event. Your ticket purchase gets you a flight of 5 top wines from France and Napa, along with bites from Garden City Cafe. Additional items including magnums of the wines being poured and gift certificates to local restaurants will be available to bid on with all proceeds going to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which means that your contribution is 100% tax deductible.
Please join me and share this with your friends. Tickets can be purchased at the link below. Click on “Purchase Event Tickets” and select “Drops of Life.”
