It might be winter in the rest of the Northern hemisphere, traditionally a time of rest and hibernation during the dark and cold months of the year, but in South Florida, we seem to do just the opposite: the weather is warm and sunny and with so many events to choose from, it's easy to forget to breathe, much less rest until May.
Without finding time for stillness to balance the busy though, it's easy to end up overwhelmed, exhausted and sick.
One of the greatest lessons I continue to learn from both my yoga & Pilates practices is to listen to my body. The more skillful I become at this, the more able I am to give it what it needs when it first begins to whisper rather than to wait until it's screaming out in pain or immobilized by fatigue. Pain of all varieties is never something to push through - it's your body asking you as kindly as it can to please do something differently.
Don't wait until you can barely get out of bed or are bent over in pain to take time for yourself. Especially now - the busier you are, the more critical self-care becomes. Put it on your calendar. Enlist a friend. Pay upfront. Whatever you have to do to ensure that you show up for yourself without excuse, do it.
Your body will thank you.
To help support your self-care efforts, I'm excited to be offering some of my favorite workshops and special classes at a few new places around Jupiter and on different days and times than usual. I hope that at least one will work for your busy season schedule and you'll join me - solo or with a friend.
